Parent Liaison Meetings

When your child joins us, you will receive regular communication from the school. We use electronic communication methods wherever we can.

Arbor: We use Arbor for all messages and emails. This is a secure application and we will give you details of how you sign up to this. Arbor is mobile phone friendly, and also has its own free app with a secure login.

Arbor Parent Portal: Is a free app that sends push notifications to your phone or mobile device. From the app you also can access your child’s attendance, update your child’s personal records and your own contact information. This is the system we also use for payments: school lunches and contributions to school trips. We are a cashless school and this system supports families and school very effectively.

Newsletters: The school issues newsletters regularly to families. Class letters and other school letters are emailed for families to read.

Twitter: The school uses our Twitter feed, @GreasbyJunior, to share and celebrate through photographs the successes of our pupils. These photographs are also shared via our school website.

Contacting staff: We recommend you call the school office or email the school office if you need to speak to a member of staff. The admin team will pass on your message; the classroom staff can contact you at times that they are not in the classroom. We always try to respond to any questions on the same day, wherever possible.

PARENTAL LIAISON

Each year, parents of Year 3 children are invited into school in the Autumn term for an open forum to discuss any areas of their and their child’s experiences and Greasby Junior School to date. In the Summer term, an invitation to a similar open forum meeting is extended to all parents. In addition to a curriculum meeting in September, there are three formal opportunities for parents to discuss their child’s progress.

A thriving Parents’ Association organises social events, as well as Christmas and Summer Fairs, which are well attended. Parents are also encouraged to help on school visits and in the classroom working with individuals or small groups.

A Home School Agreement outlining the school’s aims, ethos, expectations and responsibilities - as well as the parents’ responsibilities to their children - is given to parents of new admissions. We ask parents to sign agreements in line with our Internet Policy, Behaviour System and use of photographic images.

MEETINGS BETWEEN PARENTS AND TEACHERS

As outlined above, year group curriculum meetings are held in September. Individual parent meetings are arranged on three separate occasions during the year when parents have an opportunity to discuss their child's progress with the class teacher. At these meetings, parents are informed of their child’s progress in English and Mathematics as well as information about their well-being, behaviour and social development.

The first is mid-way in the Autumn term. The meeting, arranged on an interview basis, allows for an exchange of information between staff and parents following a settling in period where the child will have adjusted to a new year group.

The second meeting, to discuss progress half way through the year, takes place in the Spring term. The third allows parents to view work and discuss the child’s written report in the Summer term.

If parents have any concerns at any other time during the year, teachers will be pleased to discuss progress or any concerns. We ask parents to contact the school to arrange a convenient time.

We rely greatly upon the goodwill of parents in support of our common aim - the ultimate good of the individual child and a school of which we are proud. To this end, we encourage parents to develop strong links with the school, for example, by assisting in classrooms with reading, art/craft groups, school visits, etc.

Parents waiting in cars are reminded that, in the interests of safety, they must not park within the yellow markings or reverse into the main driveway or park on school premises. (Parents with disabilities should contact the school to make separate arrangements.)

Driving up the school drive is discouraged before 8.30am and not permitted after 8.30am. Similarly, at the end of the school day, parents should not drive up the school driveway or use the staff car park to park their cars unless arrangements have been made with the headteacher.
